Does culture really need a national identity?
This question emerges at a time when Denmark clings on to "Danish" values, symbols and cultural treasures out of fear for everything coming from abroad.
Paradoxically, Kronborg is an excellent example that large sections of Denmark's national heritage are imported from other cultures. The ornamentation of the Royal Chamber was created by Dutch painters, and Holger Danske, who is closely connected to Danish identity, has proved to hail from the Ardennes.
Culture is grabbed, interpreted and reworked by a new generation. I have therefore created this project together with pupils from the Ecological Produktion School in Copenhagen.
